Your journal belongs on your device.

Effective August 10, 2026 · Applies to the Mat & Margin iPhone app.

The short version: Mat & Margin does not require an account and does not send your practice records, reflections, check-ins, plans, or Study Hall time to Symposium Studios. The app stores its journal on your device. The only optional network activity is when you choose an external Study Hall audio stream.

What the app stores

The app keeps the practice logs, templates, plans, intentional-rest records, optional reflections, check-ins, Study Hall bookmarks, and counted study time that you choose to create. This information is stored locally in the app’s container on your iPhone. Mat & Margin does not operate a cloud account or a journal-sync service.

Your Apple device may include app data in a device or iCloud backup depending on settings you control with Apple. That is separate from a Mat & Margin service.

What we do not collect

The current app does not include analytics, advertising, tracking, social features, location lookup, maps, HealthKit, a login, or a developer-operated database. Symposium Studios does not receive your journal entries through the app.

Study Hall and external audio

Bundled Study Hall texts and on-device read-aloud work locally. If you choose to play the optional external audio stream, your device connects directly to the identified public source. That source can receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address and request details under its own privacy practices. Do not use an external stream if you do not want to make that connection.

The initial Study Hall posture is United States only. Source and territory notices are shown with the content; this policy is not a rights clearance.

Deletion

You can delete all app-held local data at any time from Settings → Local data → Delete all local data. This permanently removes the app’s local journal file and its recovery copy from the device. Deleting the app also removes its local container under normal iOS behavior. Device backups are managed separately through Apple settings.

Children

Mat & Margin is not directed to children. Do not provide personal information to us through support if you are under the age required in your jurisdiction to consent to that contact.
